WHAT IS PERMANENT MAKEUP?

Permanent makeup is commonly referred to as a “cosmetic tattoo”, but it’s not a traditional tattoo at all, nor is it really “permanent”. Tiny amounts of natural pigments are inserted into the dermal layer of the skin, not the epidermis (where a regular tattoo goes). Because of that, results will last a long time, but will eventually fade in approximately 1-3 years. This is perfect since faces and trends change!

WHO IS THE IDEAL CANDIDATE FOR PERMANENT MAKEUP?

Permanent makeup is perfect for busy women (and yes, men!) who are looking to save time and want their look to stay perfect around the clock. People who have Alopecia, light, half eyebrows or eyebrows with bald spots love our microstroking brow service. People with eyes sensitive to makeup or sparse lashes love permanent eyeliner, and those who want fuller looking, more defined lips love lip tinting.

Permanent makeup is also a great solution for those with oily skin that shed makeup easily, athletes, swimmers and beach goers who want to sweat and get wet without their makeup running, and anyone wanting to boost their confidence!

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MICROBLADING & NEEDLEING TECHNIQUE?

Microblading is performed with a manual blade that looks like a scalpel and is used to make tiny cuts in the skin in the design of a single hair stroke and then pigment is rubbed in over the skin so that it is absorbed. If you are going to a reputable technician they will use an anaesthetic (the same with needling technique) to help numb the area before the procedure. Despite some peoples perception that this also a new treatment on the block, it really isn’t. It originated in Asia but has been known to date back to old Egyptian treatments too!

The needling procedure is performed with a digital machine with the Nano needle. This ultra fine needle allows us to mimic the exact shape of hair, gliding it softly through the skin. This technique is using a machine which has different settings and can be controlled to allow pigment to be placed in the skin.
Having been trained and assessed by one of the leading training companies in the NJ on this new technique and needle, Modern Beauty can mimic real hair on the face.

At Modern Beauty we use the most up to date needle on the market and only use industry-approved, state-of-the-art technologies.

WHAT’S THE RECOVERY TIME?

There’s no downtime; you can go back to work right after your eyebrow, eyeliner or lip procedure. It’s normal to have some swelling on the lip and eye, and/or some minor scabbing on eyebrows. Your custom color will initially look 20-30% bolder than what the final result will be after about a week when it settles in. It will take about 7-10 days for the skin to completely heal. Our clients generally say they walk out ready to take on the rest of their day with no discomfort. Get more details on eyebrow, eyeliner and lip tinting aftercare instructions.

ARE THE PROCEDURES PAINFUL?

We’re here to make your experience as pain-free as possible! Our technicians are trained & certified in Pain Management. We use effective topical anesthetic ointments that numb the skin, and we are happy to apply as much as needed to keep you comfortable. Everyone experiences pain differently, but most of our clients say the pain is mild to moderate, comparable to eyebrow tweezing. We even see clients that are terrified of needles and have no problem with our application.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AT MY APPOINTMENT?

When you walk into of our offices, you’ll immediately feel welcomed, relaxed and pampered. Help yourself to tea or coffee after checking in with our receptionist. An assistant will apply numbing cream, and if it’s your first visit, you’ll soon have a consultation with your technician. She’ll get to know your lifestyle and personality, go over the procedure and options, and answer any questions. Your technician will draw in and define the areas to be colored and work with you on shape, thickness and color. Then you’ll enter a treatment room where your skin is exfoliated and more numbing cream applied. You’ll then lie back and let your technician do her magic! When you’re done you’ll receive aftercare cream and a review of instructions before heading out the door with your new, fabulous look.

HOW IS MY PERMANENT MAKEUP COLOR(S) CHOSEN?

Using over 40 hypo-allergenic oraganic pigments, your technician will custom blend a color for you. You’ll work with your technician who will get to know your personality, assess you face shape and coloring, and make design suggestions as to color, thickness, and shape. The final decision is always yours, and you’ll see your color before it’s permanently applied. Our clients love having a makeup artist’s opinion. In some cases our clients have stepped out of their comfort zone based on a technician recommendation, and they’re so glad they did!

HOW WILL I LOOK IMMEDIATELY AFTER MY PROCEDURE?

Our clients have huge, excited smiles on their faces when they see their new look! Your new color will look darker and more defined the first week. After about a week, the color’s intensity will soften about 40% and settle in. Detailed aftercare instructions are provided and reviewed before and after each procedure.

HOW LONG WILL PERMANENT MAKEUP LAST?

Permanent makeup is long-lasting and will slowly fade over the course of 1-3 years. As you become accustomed to your makeup, it’s not uncommon to want more. To keep your makeup looking fresh, we recommend having it retouched every 1-2 years. Darker colors, such as dark eyeliner, will last the longest. Natural, delicate colors are more vulnerable to the effects of sun, swimming and your skin’s natural emollients.

WHAT IS THE DOWNTIME? CAN I GO BACK TO WORK AFTER THE PROCEDURE?

Yes you can. Your makeup will look darker when you first get it done, but it doesn’t mean that you have to take time off of work. Many people choose to schedule procedures on a Friday, so they have the weekend off before they return to work. Eyeliner and lip color will produce puffiness in the skin for two days post procedure, and your skin will heal completely in about six days.

WHO SHOULD AVOID GETTING PERMANENT MAKEUP?

For safety reasons, the following should not have permanent makeup applied:

  • Areas that have had fillers (like Juvederm) should be avoided as well as any areas that have problematic skin conditions like skin cancer, eczema and psoriasis.
